Auction Sneak Peek #12

Artist Necole-Efua Wood has generously donated three pieces to our auction!

And this is what she has to say about her art:

Hello, my name is Necole-Efua Wood and I am living proof that there is much to be said about a diverse upbringing. My mother is Ghanaian and Filipino and my father is Irish American. Exposure to such diversity at a young age, naturally led to my broad understanding of love, life, art, style, tradition, and my passion for travel.

These past couple of years I have made it my personal mission to travel to another country at least once a year. I have been to Ghana, London, Philippines, Greece, Taiwan, and South Korea. The exciting part is this is just the beginning.

In the midst of my traveling, I began to appreciate and question the little things that led to the creation of bigger things.  I believe that life is a beautiful gift that is constantly expressed through many art forms; jewelry, paintings, clothes, poetry, makeup, dance, etc., and my goal is to expose you to all of those.

Auction Sneak Peek #11

We'd like to introduce you to artist Betsy Barnum of Reverie Studio!  Betsy has donated this facinating piece to our auction:

"It won't matter either way"

The painting's composition is meant to evoke a feeling of comfort but uncertainty.  The right figure could be protecting the left figure from the bird, or ambivalent about it. The ocean water creates a sense of unknown.

One framed artwork made from acrylic paint, pencil, and collage on paper. Created in 2008. Size is 44 x 30".

Ready for hanging/display.

Please see Betsy's website to view more of her work!

Auction Sneak Peek #9

WPIG is happy to re-introduce you to artist and jewelry-maker Irene Wood of Crow's Catch!  Irene was a donor to last year's auction and is back this year with this beautiful pair of earrings.

They are hand-crafted from jade, vintage lucite and pearl on surgical steel plated earwires.  They retail for $40.  Please be sure to check out Irene's Etsy site to see more of her beautiful jewelry!

Irene Wood, currently an artist in Seattle, WA, graduated with a BA in Studio Art from Whitman College in 2004. Her semi-abstract paintings explore themes of growth, displacement and decay through impressionistic explorations of distorted scale and familiar motifs of the natural landscape. Her intuitive process consists of layering brushstrokes and washes in grid-like axes, a reflection of a seemingly inherent desire to compartmentalize in linear fashions. The many layers of abstract form, color, and nature imagery create visions of ecological utopias that live on the edge between reality and fiction. These are elaborations of visceral memories and heavily embellished illusions of dream-like environments, as tense as they are harmonious.

Please visit her website to see her paintings and find out about her upcoming shows!

Bolstered in an extensive career in textile, graphic and ceramic design, and feeling the need for more spontaneous control of her artwork, she returned to her first and greatest love, painting—a vocation that she pursues avidly in addition to her role as a buyer for The Rose Café, a local gift shop in Venice, California.

Terri is a recipient of the Image-Ination Award and a selected artist of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Rental and Sales Gallery. She has exhibited at SKGallery in Venice, CA; Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, CA; Long Beach Arts in Long Beach, CA; Fred Segal in Santa Monica, CA; and Finegood Gallery in West Hills, CA. She studied at El Camino College and Palomar College in Southern California. She continues to create living memories with her husband and little boy in her native Los Angeles.
